Chapter Sixteen
Travis
Itâs that indignant little scowl that keeps me coming back to her time and time again. That, and the growing list of other things I like about Paige Matthews.
Thereâs a brief moment of eye contact before she finally breaks the connection and sighs as she shakes her head. âInfuriating,â she murmurs.
âThatâs a new one.â
âWhat?â
âInfuriating.â
She levels me with a look that says she doesnât believe that for a second. âSurely youâve been called infuriating before.â
âOn the contrary.â I lean forward and tick the words off my fingers as I go. âGenius. Cocky. Charming. Handsome.â Obviously. I point at my dimple. âSexy.â She rolls her lips between her teeth to keep from smiling and I give her one more, just to be a shit. âGod.â
It takes a second, but when my meaning registers, her eyes widen. âWhat?â she sputters.
âOh, you know what I mean.â I lean back and pull my phone out of the breast pocket of my coat, then tap a quick text to Cabot, telling him to go on ahead to lunch without me. Iâm sure he and Rylan can handle pawing each other throughout their meal without me third-wheeling it for a change. âWhen someoneâs stretched out beneath me yelling âoh my godâââ
âOh my god, Travis!â
âYeah, thatâs it exactly. Howâd you know?â I chuckle as I lift only my gaze, smirking when I spy that sexy as fuck red flush creeping up her throat. It takes all of my willpower to return my attention to my phone, instead of watching that flush spread out across her cheeks. I open up the local delivery app I use far more frequently than I care to admit and scroll through the options.
Paige clears her throat and I look up at her. âYou need some water?â
She huffs. âWhat are you doing?â
I hold up my phone. âTrying to figure out what Iâm in the mood for.â
She frowns. âWhat?â
âFood, Paige. Iâm ordering lunch.â
She blinks as if what Iâve said doesnât make sense, then her eyes flick to the open door of her office. âDonât you have lunch plans?â
âThey left without me.â
Her eyes shoot back to mine. âMaybe you could catch up with them.â
âNo can do, buckaroo.â I shrug. âCabot was my ride.â
Her lips tighten into a fine line, then she runs her tongue over her teeth and glares at me over the top of her glasses. Bright red frames today. âIâm sure you have the means with which to follow them. Why donât you call your driver?â
âI donât have a driver. Pizza?â I pause and look up at her again. âNah, not when youâre wearing a white shirt. Could get messy.â Returning my attention to the phone, I continue to scroll.
âCall a driver, Mr. Wilder. Doesnât have to be yours.â
âWell, it canât be mine, Ms. Matthews,â I say slowly, âbecause I donât have a driver.â
Her nostrils flare and itâs damn adorable. âRideshare, Travis. Call one.â
I look up, keeping the smile off my face. âChinese?â
Her nostrils flare on an intake of breath.
âNo? Okay.â Hmm. I continue to scroll.
